The orchestra is always keen to hear from players who are interested in joining the orchestra. The orchestra provides a friendly and supportive environment in which to work on orchestral repertoire. Players need to be of a good standard and wishing to improve. Recent works played by the Orchestra include Sibelius Symphony No. 5, Shostakovich Suite for Variety Orchestra, Ralph Vaughan Williams 5 Mystical Songs and Mathias Celtic Dances. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings, from 7.45pm to around 9.45pm, at St Helen's Church, Alveston, and perform in two to three concerts a year. A membership fee is charged to help cover the costs of music and the running of the orchestra.
The orchestra is particularly keen to hear from CELLO, VIOLA and DOUBLE BASS players wishing to join the orchestra. Please contact membership@thornburyorchestra.org.uk.
If there are no vacancies for your instrument, you may be invited to join the waiting list. Players on the waiting list will normally get the opportunity to play either deputising for absence or when scoring demands additional players.
Requirements do vary, however, so for more information please email membership@thornburyorchestra.org.uk
