Joining the orchestra
The orchestra is always keen to hear from players who are interested in joining the orchestra. The orchestra provides a friendly and supportive environment in which to work on orchestral repertoire. Players need to be of a good standard and wishing to improve. Recent works played by the Orchestra include Elgar's Enigma Variations, Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and excerpts from Holst's The Planets. We rehearse normally on a fortnightly basis on Wednesday evenings, from 7.45pm to around 9.45pm, at the United Reformed Church in Thornbury and perform in two to three concerts a year. A membership fee is charged to help cover the costs of music and the running of the orchestra.
Membership fee Yearly Termly
(Sept–Dec or Jan–June) Full rate £30 £15 Concession
(those in full time education, incl. students) £12.50 £6.25
There are more often vacancies for string players than woodwind or brass. Wind players wishing to join the waiting list will normally get the opportunity to play either deputising for absence or when scoring demands additional players. The orchestra also runs annual open evenings, normally at the end of the summer term, during which prospective players get the chance to rehearse exciting works just for fun with the rest of the orchestra.
Requirements do vary, however, so for more information please contact Conductor Chris Hill or Chairman Hugh Price.

Just a few of our merry band of musicians!
