Thornbury Orchestra’s groundbreaking competition to find new contemporary composing talent attracted a number of entries. The winners were: 

Section:

Open:                                       Tom Green - Larva

Undergraduate:                     Daniel Ryan - Yearning

A Level (Joint Winners): Jennifer Shrimpton - A Night at the Toy Shop

                                       Aled Thomas - The Flight of the Nightingale

The Judges also wished to award special prizes to the following compositions: The War of Peace Claire Green Thornbury March Lyn Lloyd-Jones The Voyage Seb Farrall Can’t you Sleep Little Bear Stephanie Williams Thornbury Orchestra will be performing these works over the next couple of years in line with their ongoing programme to encourage local composition. Larva and Yearning received their premiers on 18th June 2011 at Berkeley. Thornbury Orchestra remains keen to hear from other local composers who would like to discuss compositions and promotion of contemporary music in the area
